The Salmon and the Tomato children’s book

*** AVAILABLE NOW ***

Did you know that everyday foods we eat in the UK, like tomatoes and salmon, can have vast and surprising effects on people living far away?

The Salmon and the Tomato is an accessible, empathetic story that encourages children to recognise global connections and consider how collective choices can create a more just and sustainable world. This is a children’s book that helps young readers (ages c.5-11) understand how the food on their plates connects them to people and places across the world. Told through the voice of a grandmother explaining the sources of food in an ordinary dinner in the United Kingdom, the story traces the hidden links between farmed salmon and a Spanish tomato and fishermen in Senegal, revealing how simple choices are tied to global systems far afield.

This beautiful 32-page book features introductions by Mustapha Manneh (investigative journalist and human rights campaigner) and Dr Aliou Ba (Greenpeace Africa), a background essay, and 8 exciting activities for children.

We’re delighted to be able to partner with schools in the UK and West Africa where teachers are planning to use the book in their lessons. You can support our work with these schools by buying a book (or an entire class of 22 shared books!) Please let us know in your order if you already have a school willing to collaborate with us, otherwise books will go to our partner schools.

All profits will be used to pay for books for schools. Find out more about the project here.

Regretably, at this time we are only able to deliver within in the UK.
